Cruising + RV Travel: The Perfect Travel Duo 🎯

Today we set sail on a 14 day Mediterranean cruise. We quickly find out that cruising and RV travel offer very distinct experiences, but they can also complement each other beautifully. So is cruising a viable addition to RV travel? We say YES! By combining cruising and RV travel, we think you can experience the best of both worlds: the convenience and luxury of cruising with the freedom and exploration of RVing. Let's explore how these two modes of travel can complement each other perfectly.

Unique & Diverse Destinations

One of the most significant advantages of combining cruising and RV travel is the ability to explore a wider range of destinations.

Cruising excels at reaching international locations, particularly island and coastal areas. Imagine sailing through the Caribbean, exploring the Greek Isles, or discovering the beauty of the Norwegian fjords. Cruise lines offer efficient itineraries, handling the logistics of travel, accommodations, and transportation between destinations.

On the other hand, RV travel shines when it comes to exploring inland destinations, national parks, and smaller towns. The flexibility of an RV allows you to venture off the beaten path and immerse yourself in the heart of a country. Imagine exploring the vast landscapes of the American West, discovering hidden gems in the Canadian Rockies, or winding through the charming countryside of New England.

When it comes to travel, the #1 advantage of cruising for us is the access to international destinations that it provides.

Dynamic Travel Rhythms

Cruising and RV travel offer contrasting travel experiences.

Cruising provides a more relaxed pace. With scheduled port stops and a variety of onboard activities, cruises offer a perfect escape from the daily grind. Especially during a sea day. You can indulge in fine dining, enjoy live entertainment, and relax by the pool. It's an ideal way to unwind and recharge.

In contrast, RV travel offers a more independent and flexible travel style. You are the captain of your own adventure, free to explore at your own pace. Whether you prefer to spend hours hiking in a national park or simply relaxing at a campground, the choice is yours. RV travel allows you to create your own itinerary and adapt to changing plans.

It is hard to beat a relaxing day at the pool while at sea.

Amenities Galore

Cruising and RV travel offer different amenities that can complement each other.

Cruising provides luxurious accommodations, world-class dining, and a range of entertainment options. It's a chance to indulge in a pampering experience and enjoy the company of fellow travelers. However, many of the staterooms aren't much bigger than our Airstream.

RV travel offers a more home-like environment. With a kitchen, living area, and sleeping quarters, your RV is your "home on wheels". You have the freedom to cook your own meals, relax in your own space, and bring along all the comforts of home.

One of the biggest advantages of RV travel is having your home on wheels with all the comforts of home.

Shared Travel Experiences

Both cruising and RV travel offer opportunities to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

Cruising brings together travelers from all over the world, creating a unique social experience. You can meet people from different cultures, share stories, and make lifelong friends.

RV travel allows for deeper connections with local communities and fellow RV enthusiasts. You can interact with park rangers, shop at local markets, and share experiences with other travelers on the road.

The BEST part of any travel is the shared experience you can have with family and friends.

Overcoming Travel Challenges

Cruising and RV travel are both positioned uniquely to help overcome common travel challenges (in their own ways).

Cruising simplifies international travel by handling much of the logistics such as visas, transportation, and accommodations. It's a convenient option for exploring multiple destinations without the hassle of planning every detail.

RV travel offers a comfortable and self-contained option for long-distance travel within a region. You have the freedom to explore at your own pace, stop when you want, and enjoy the comfort of your own home on wheels.

Once off the cruise ship, transportation ashore can be a challenge. However, most cruise lines will offer a variety of shore excursions and tours to minimize the planning on your part.

Is Cruising Cost-Effective?

The cost of a cruise can vary depending on factors such as the cruise line, destination, cabin type, and time of year. While cruising can be a luxurious experience, it's also possible to find affordable options. By comparing prices, choosing a less popular departure date, or opting for an inside cabin, you can potentially reduce costs.

Additionally, consider the overall value of a cruise. The price includes accommodations, meals, entertainment, and transportation between destinations. While there will be additional expenses for shore excursions and souvenirs, you may find that the overall cost is comparable to a traditional vacation.

If your a Foodie...hands down cruising provides many more dining options than typical RV travel

Is Cruising a Viable Addition to RV Travel?

Absolutely! Combining cruising and RV travel offers a fantastic way to experience the best of both worlds. You can enjoy the convenience and luxury of a cruise for exploring international destinations, followed by an immersive RV adventure through the heart of America. By carefully planning your cruise and RV itinerary, you can create a seamless travel experience that caters to your interests and budget.

Because international travel is important to us, we absolutely plan to continue cruising as a way to expand our travel options in the future.

Final Thoughts

Cruising and RV travel offer unique and complementary experiences. By combining these two modes of transportation, you can create unforgettable adventures that allow you to explore diverse destinations, enjoy different travel rhythms, and experience the best of both worlds. Whether you're seeking relaxation and luxury or independence and exploration, a combination of cruising and RV travel can provide the perfect balance for your next vacation.

Cheers 🥂 and Safe Travels,
