Elijah Clark State Park, Georgia - Campground Review.

Summary:

Located on the eastern edge of Georgia on the Clarks Hill Lake, Elijah Clark State Park is 140 miles East of Atlanta, 41 miles North of Augusta, GA, and 93 miles West from Columbia, SC. This was our maiden voyage in our recently purchased Airstream that we picked-up the day prior from a fantastic couple located in a nearby town (a story for another day). We arrived early on a Friday morning and stayed over the weekend, so the campground quickly filled with families taking advantage of the Summer school break to spend time camping at the lake. The 447 acre campground is divided into several areas with sites able to accommodate a wide range of campers from primitive tent sites to spacious big rig sites. The campground is open year around and is a great escape from the daily grind.

Overall Score: 3.5 Campfires

Note: For our campground reviews, we use at total of six criteria to determine the overall score. The criteria that we use include: Cost, Campsite Access, Amenities, Cleanliness, Privacy & Noise Levels, and Cell Coverage. Each criteria is scored between 1 - 5.

Cost: 3 Campfires

Overall the cost was on average with most State Parks. The nightly rate is $38 and the weekly rate is $266. Check-in is 1:00 pm and Check-out is 12:00 pm

Campsite Access: 5 Campfires

The campground has several Big Rig friendly sites with both pull-thru and back-in campsites. The roads are wide and overall access to the sites is good. Our site was a pull-thru site and was very large.

Amenities: 3 Campfires

Water, 50/30 amp electric is available at most campsites and there is access to a dump station. There are 172 Tent, Trailer and RV campsites and 20 Cottages available for rent. There is a fishing pier, sand beach, several boat ramps, and a playground for the kids.

Cleanliness: 4 Campfires.

Overall the campground was clean and well maintained. The dump station was adequate, but could only accommodate two rigs at a time which can add to wait times when trying to depart for your next destination. The trash points were clean and easy to access.

Privacy & Noise Levels: 5 Campfires

The sites are spacious and distance between sites was great. We had no issues with noise or privacy during our stay. However, we were invaded by ants and bought several of them home with us.

Cell Coverage: 1 Campfires

Our cell coverage was fair to poor on most days with an average of 1 to 2 bars of Verizon LTE coverage. The signal was adequate for phone calls, but internet access was spotty and streaming videos from Netflix and Hulu wasn’t worth the effort.
