Final Checks ✅ - Getting Our Airstream Road Trip Ready!

Having a home base to return to when we’re not on the road has been a blessing. But, if you’re new to our channel, you might not know that this year has been quite a journey itself—between installing new floors, dealing with unexpected truck repairs, and getting the Airstream wask& waxed for our next trip, it’s been a long haul. But now, we’re eager to hit the road again. Today, we're wrapping up our final checks and getting the Airstream road-trip ready.

Road Trip: The Final Checks ✅

✅ Check 1: Cleaning and Organizing the Interior:

To make our Airstream feel fresh and welcoming, Lisa took on the task of a deep clean. She washed the curtains, wiped down the countertops, and vacuumed the floors to remove all traces of dirt and debris. Given all the recent repair work, this thorough cleaning was much needed. It’s going to be fantastic to have a clean and comfortable living space for our travels. While Lisa worked her magic inside, I had a list of tasks to tackle outside.

✅ Check 2: Testing the Firman Generator:

Our first task was to test the Firman dual-fuel generator to ensure it's in top shape and ready to power the Airstream. This step is crucial, especially for camping in remote areas without shore power access. We exclusively use LPG to run the generator, and it’s consistently provided ample power for our needs.

✅ Check 3: Tire Pressure Check:

Safety comes first! We checked all the Airstream’s tires with our trusty TST Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) to ensure they’re properly inflated. Proper tire pressure is essential for optimal performance and fuel efficiency.

✅ Check 4: Sanitizing the Fresh Water Tank:

To ensure our drinking water is safe, we sanitized the fresh water tank with a bleach solution. We mixed 3/4 cup of bleach with 39 gallons of water and let it sit for at least 4 hours. If you’re worried about a bleach taste, we recommend using a Travel Berkey water filtration system. It’s easy to use and always delivers great-tasting water.

✅ Check 5: Mopeka LPG Sensor Battery Change:

We also replaced the batteries in our Mopeka LPG sensors. This simple task, which only takes a few minutes, is crucial for keeping track of our propane levels and ensuring our safety on the road. Here is a video if you are interested in learning more about the Mopeka Propane Tank Sensors.

✅ Check 6: Keeping Track with Apple AirTags:

Next, we replaced the battery in our Apple AirTag. We use AirTags to keep track of our Airstream and valuable items, providing peace of mind and helping to prevent theft.

✅ Check 7: Stocking Up on Spare Parts:

Finally, we took some time to restock our spare parts bins. Having essential parts on hand can be a lifesaver for minor repairs along the way. We recently purchased some new Greenmade multi-purpose modular storage bins (se below) that I really like. They allow us to better organize our spare parts and group them by type (i.e. water, electrical, sewer parts...). If you’re curious about the spare parts we carry, check out our Top 10 Critical Spare Parts list.

A Few Final Thoughts:

First, we are incredibly grateful for all support the Airstream community has provided to our small YouTube channel and this website. Second, we are very excited to hit the road and hope to meet many of you during our travel. Stay tuned for our upcoming adventures as we explore new destinations and make lasting memories!

Happy Camping,

Rick & Lisa
